I began my research by mapping the local area, using the figure and ground technique to identify possible locations for my project.
I like this as a graphic image but didn't find it all that useful, so I made a more detailed coded map showing land use. Although this image may be hard to understand I don't want to put a key on it. A figure and ground map can be viewed purely as a graphic and I want this map to maintain that same quality.
However this map only helps to reiterate my first impression that the surrounding area is hostile to the pedestrian.
