London Architecture Festival

Project Pollinate.

The concept behind the name lines up closely with the idea of a series of Urban Islands all across the city. Also, the idea behind the project is that we do something small which revolutionizes how an area is used or perceived. In a similar way to pollen, when a plant is pollinated it begins to change and reproduce. Therefore people are influenced to try and replicate this in other areas where they see potential.

Extract from our proposal: ’we want to just add something subtle to instigate a change in how the area is used by the local community. This project is aimed at changing an area already used by the local community, but to make it a more enjoyable experience. We observed that people were not using the seating area and were sitting on the wall instead.’

We decided to use a guerrilla lighting event to achieve this. This was a low technology and low cost intervention. Using torches we performed for three consecutive nights as part of the London Architecture Festival.
